'Restaurant is pvt property, it has nothing to do with institute'

PNS

While it is an open fact that three students of the college were injured in the collapse of a restaurant which is located inside the premises of CIMSR on Sunday, efforts are being made by the college management to prove that the restaurant is not part of the college. When contacted the Principal of CIMSR, Vijaya Shanti categorically said that the restaurant is a private property and it has nothing to do with the institute.

However one visit to the institute reveals that the restaurant is well and truly within the premises of the institute. To camouflage it the owner of the restaurant has made a separate entry which is located on the main Haridwar road. The members of the college staff admitted that the restaurant was frequented by the students of the college. Incidentally the restaurant also belongs to the Managing Director (MD) of the institute G S Jadaun. The MD however was not present in his office and his phone number was also found not reachable. In the accident three students, Rachna Bhandari, Varsha Rawat and Rinki Shah suffered injuries as they were inside the building. The locals also confirmed that the restaurant is part of the college and things could have been worse had the accident occurred on weekdays as the place is packed with students.

The District Magistrate (DM) of Dehradun Ravinath Raman told The Pioneer that a FIR is registered against the owner of the building as prima facie it appears that inferior quality building material and not following the routine norms of construction caused collapse of the roof. He said that the building which houses the college and hostel would also be examined. The DM said that to ensure the safety of students a holiday of seven days is declared in the college.
