The weather department declared that the prolonged rainy spell would slump into a subdued phase from September 17 onwards, something that must give some respite to the people of the rain-drenched state. The Met officers said that while it would continue to rain for some more time the intensity would substantially lessen in the coming days. However, they warned that hailstorm might lash the hills of the state during the next 24 hours. Notably, the rainy season drags in the state till the end of September.
In its forecast, the Met officials said on Saturday that while the sky would remain generally overcast light to moderate rain/thundershower might occur at some places across the state on Sunday. The same climate would prevail in Dehradun on Sunday as the sky would be mostly cloudy with likelihood of rain/thundershowers at isolated places in the district.
As per the Met department, the monsoon so far this season is normal while many districts have recorded either normal or excess rain and a few has had below the normal or deficit rainfall. However, on the whole, things are normal, said a senior weather officer.
The people living in Dehradun said that the administration must derive lessons from what they faced during the peak monsoon. “The roads are waterlogged even after a brief spell of rain. Things are really pathetic. We hope that the administration would wake from its slumber and think of taking measures to ensure that the same does not repeat in the next monsoon session,” said an elderly resident of the city.
