At least two cases of minors and women being raped and murdered in the state have happened in the state in the recent history with the people erupting in anger following them. One such case had happened in Haldwani in Nainital district in November 2014 when a seven -year -old girl was murdered after being raped. Earlier in January the same year, a 12- year- old girl had been raped and murdered in a sugarcane field near Bhatta Colony under Pathri police station in Haridwar district when she had gone to answer to nature’s call. Despite years having passed since the crime and the State Government having handed over the case to CBI, the accused are still at large.
