Relocation of Sarai roadways bus stand faces resistance

PNS

With the agitation against the district administration’s decision to relocate the  roadways bus stand at Sarai  continuing, the Vyapar mandal, Dharamshala Suraksha Samiti and Scout and Guides’ Committee have announced their decision to resist the proposed relocation under the banner Haridwar Sangharsh Samiti. Notably, the stir had gained steam since the time Akhada Parishad members had opposed the proposed shifting of the bus stand.

At a meeting held on Monday, the meambers of the three outfits said that if the state government  and the district administration  decide to remain adamant on the matter they would fight the move unitedly. The members of Ganga Sabha,  hotel association and Haridwar Nagrik Manch  attended the meeting too.

Former Nagar Palika chairman Pradeep Chaudhary  and  the head of Dharmashala Suraksha Samiti Mahesh Gaud announced that they are against the relocation move. A leading businessman  Sanjeev Nayyar said that  the land  under Jal Nigam can be used if  the space   crunch  of the existing bus stand is what has triggered the move.

Chaudhary said, “ISBT should under no circumstances  be shifted to Rishikul or Sarai. The city needs at least one major ground for important rallies and Sarai is too far from the city. We wonder why crores of rupees were spent for renovating  the present bus stand just three  years ago.”

Suggesting an alternative,  Chaudhary said, “If expansion needs to be done nearly 30 bighas of land lying just adjacent to the bus stand under the Jal Nigam should be used. Peyjal Nigam can be shifted to Jagjeetpur where STP plants are located.”
