Relief to weaker sections in procuring lPG

PNS

The financially weaker customers  of lPG cylinders in Uttarakhand may experience some relief from the travails suffered in the procurement of cooking gas cylinders. The relief is expected as a result of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas deciding to extend the benefits under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to the people of all mountainous States including North-East States by treating them as ‘Priority States’ and release lPG connections to the eligible beneficiaries.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is being implemented with an aim to facilitate the provision of deposit- free lPG connections to below poverty line households as a clean fuel solution. Till now, more than 50 lakh connections have been released to the beneficiaries, according to officials.

The recent step taken by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is expected to effectively address the problems faced by the financially poor people residing in the States of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Tripura in accessing lPG for cooking purposes.
