PNS

The parents of the students of Government medical colleges of Dehradun and Haldwani have requested the State Government to reduce the fee of MBBS course.

These parents have written letters to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and leader of opposition in the state assembly and expressed their demand. Apart from it the students and their relatives are expressing their anguish on social media platforms at what they term astronomical fees in the two government medical colleges of the state. The annual fee in these two colleges of the State is Rs 4.20 lakh which according to the parents is the highest among government colleges of the country.

In a letter written to Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, the parents have said that the Uttarakhand started a system of bond in which the first year MBBS students were asked to sign a bond to work for a certain period of time in the government hospitals after completion of their studies.

In lieu of this bond the students were required to pay a sum of only Rs 50000 per year as fee while the non bond students were charged a fee of Rs 4 lakh per annum.

In the year 2019, the students taking admission in government medical colleges of Dehradun and Haldwani were not offered bond and all the students were asked to deposit the fee which was in excess of Rs 4 lakh per annum. The parents point out that in all government medical colleges of the country the fee for MBBS ranges from Rs 4000 to Rs 70000 per year and the fees of Doon medical college and Haldwani medical college is highest in the country.

“The CM should take note of our plea. Most of the students are from middle and lower middle class families and for them it is very difficult to bear the cost of medical education of their wards.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also affected the earning of most of the parents. We request the government to reduce the fee of MBBS course and make it at par with other government medical colleges,’’ said the mother of a first year student.
