Red-faced Education department issues revised transfer list

PNS

Shocked by the flak it received for issuing transfer orders of a dead Professor, a red faced higher education department has cancelled the list of transfers and issued a revised one. The Pioneer its edition of August 13 had pointed out the glaring mistake.

After cancelling the list of transfer, the

department released a new list on Saturday in which the name of Jodh Singh Negi-who had died last month-did not figured. Negi was positioned as head of department of economics at Government PG College Kotdwar.

On July 30 he was found hanging in his house.  The transfer orders issued on August 11 showed him transferred to Nagnath Pokhri in Chamoli district. Though the new orders were released on Saturday they carry a date of August 12.

Interestingly the new orders are individual while the earlier order was in form of a consolidated list. Barring Negi the new list also do not have the names of SC Tamta and Prem Prakash Tripathi. The new orders are vetted by Additional Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha while Additional Chief Secretary, S Ramaswamy had signed the earlier ones.

It is learnt that the Minister of Higher Education Indira Hridayesh was angry over the fiasco and directed the senior officers to rectify the error. It is worth mentioning here that all the 13 transfers have taken place to the colleges located in plain areas of State. Moreover six out of total 12 transfers of Assistant Professors have taken place to the most sought after colleges of Haldwani-which incidentally is the assembly constituency of Indira Hridayesh.

The list clearly shows that the colleges located in the mountainous parts of the State which are reeling under acute shortage of teachers would be further depleted in strength while the colleges like MB Government PG College Haldwani and Government colleges of Raipur, Rishikesh, Doiwala and Dakpathar in Dehradun district would get more teachers.
