Record sale of forms in DAV College might leave students sans admission

PNS

The record sale of admission forms for undergraduate and post-graduate courses in DAV College here means that thousands of students would be deprived of admission in the colleges this year. The Principal of DAV College Devendra Bhasin told The Pioneer that till Thursday 21,600 forms for Under Graduate (UG) courses of college were sold from the college. He informed that 5,100 forms for Post-Graduate seats of the college were sold to the students. The college has only 4,100 seats in the UG classes while the number of seats up for grab in PG classes is 1,100.

It is expected that the figure of total forms sold can reach more than 32000 (both UG and PG) till July 20 which is the last date of forms. It is worth mentioning here that last year 20,000 forms were sold by the DAV administration and the college was forced to admit limited number of students in wake of a judgment of Uttarakhand High Court. It is believed that the different student unions would raise the issue of limited vacancies in the colleges this year too.

The concept of evening classes devised by the state government to accommodate large number of students who could not get admissions in the regular classes has also failed in the college. The lecturers of the college protested against the decision of evening classes and demanded that the more teachers should be recruited to teach in these classes. There was long tussle between the DAV management and district administration as to who would recruit guest lecturers to teach in the evening classes. The issue ensured that not even a single admission was done in the evening classes in DAV College last year and this year also the evening classes are not expected to start in this College.
