Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Dehradun conducted a day- long workshop to create awareness among police on the unauthorised banking activities at intelligence and security directorate’s auditorium in Dehradun on Monday.

Sharma said that if any cops need any kind of help in the cases related to financial frauds /cheating they can directly approach the RBI Dehradun office.

In course of the workshop, the policemen were informed about acts and laws against illegal banking activities like RBI Act, Indian Pinal Code and Chit and Fund Society Act aside from the provisions of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on financial frauds. These relate to action against swindlers duping the people by dangling attractive offers, lottery through false companies, circulation of fake Indian currency (notes) and the like.  Besides, the workshop stressed on providing prompt assistance to the people regarding such frauds.

State additional DGP (intelligence) Ashok Kumar said as per the police reports, the common people are being lured into parting with money with promises of lucrative returns by the fraudsters who use phone calls, SMSs and other social networking sites. Once the frauds are detected they take to their heels, leaving no trace behind. Several such cases have been reported at various police stations of the state, he said.

This workshop would help the policemen who are dealing such cases in their day- to- day working to crack them, Kumar said. Besides, the people would be cautioned against depositing money in any bank or company without scrutinising things thoroughly, he said.

Additional DGP (law and order) Anil K Raturi said that bank fraud cases being on the rise in various parts of the state, all the departments should work together to check such crimes.  The police officers had been benefited from the technical knowledge provided during the workshop, he said, adding that the benefits would reach the people later.
