The decision of TPS Rawat to leave the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and rejoining Congress would not affect any poll prospects of AAP in Uttarakhand, said State convener of party, HC Arya, while talking to The Pioneer on Sunday.
Making a full circle since he left the Congress party in 2007, the former army lt Gen rejoined Congress on Saturday after his stints in BJP, his own Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha (URM) and most recently AAP.
Arya said Rawat merged his URM with AAP as he was impressed with the ideology of party and the crusade undertaken by its leader Arvind Kejriwal against corruption. He said that Rawat never expressed his desire to contest the lok Sabha elections while he was in AAP and he merely expressed his will to work for the cause of general public.
Arya said AAP would not be affected by the exit of Rawat and claimed that large number of ex servicemen are joining the party.
The State convener of the party who also is party’s candidate from Almora reserved lok Sabha constituency said that the ex-servicemen fought with the enemy on borders while in service but after retiring from services they realised that the real enemy of the country is the corruption which is vitiating the vitals of the country.
“The ex-servicemen of the State are convinced that only AAP has the potential to throw the corruption from the country so they are supporting the party” Arya claimed. The AAP leader said that he was experiencing an undercurrent in favour of the fledgling party in State during his election campaigning.
The fledgling party which is trying to make an impressive electoral debut in Uttarakhand has nominated first women DGP of State Kanchan Choudhary from Haridwar, B S Cheema form Nainital , Rakesh Negi from Pauri, Anup Nautiyal from Tehri and HC Arya from Almora for the ensuing general elections.
