The Chief Minister Harish Rawat has written letters to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in regard to hydro power projects in Uttarakhand as well as for consideration of revival plan of the HMT watch factory through the Ministry of Heavy industries. The CM has requested the Prime Minister to carry out follow up actions on the decision taken in the meeting held in the PMO by the concerned ministries.

He further said, “It is the firm stand of the State Government that projects should be implemented giving due cognisance to longitudinal connectivity, release of environmental flow and other general environment issues.”

On the HMT factory issue he informed him about the background of the watch factory. The factory was established in the year 1985 to provide employment to the local youth and this was the first major public sector unit in the hill area but could not sustain due to financial constraints. The revival plan was under consideration but has not been implemented. He also mentioned that the unit has also been manufacturing other components for Defense and Aerospace organizations as well.
