Rawat to talk to Dhami

SUNIl KUMAR

In a bid to ‘chill’ the political mercury that shot up following the threat of resignation by Dharchula MlA Harish Dhami from Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Thursday spoke to Union Minister for Water Resources Harish Rawat on phone, asking him to ‘intervene’ into the matter.

Rawat has assured the CM of speaking to MlA Harish Dhami and MlA Hemesh Kharkwal. If political analysts are to be believed, by having a dialogue with Union Minister Rawat, the CM targeted several ‘issues’ with a stone. On the one hand, he clarified that the Union Minister was behind the show, so he should take efforts to manage it.

The analyst further added that two MlAs Harish Dhami and Hemesh Kharkwal, were among the MlAs’ group included Harak Singh Rawat (Rudraprayag), Dinesh Aggrawal (Dharampur), Furkan Ahmed (Piran kaliyar), SS Negi (Kotdwar), Harish Dhami (Dharchula), Mayukh Mahar (Pithoragarh), Narayan Ram Arya (Gangolihaat), lalit Farswan (Kapkot), Manoj Tiwari (Almora), Govind Singh Kunjwal (Jageshwar) and Hemesh Kharkwal (Champawat) that expressed reluctance in oath taking as MlA after Assembly polls 2012.

The group took oath only after intervention of the party high command. Even then they had indirectly challenged the party high command. later Chief Minister Bahuguna had long deliberation with then Union Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harish Rawat to diffuse then standoff. Thereafter Dinesh Aggarwal, Pritam Singh, Surendra Singh Negi were given birth in Bahuguna cabinet, MlA Govind Singh Kunjwal was made speaker of newly elected Vidhan Sabha and later Harak Singh Rawat took oath as 11th cabinet minister in the Bahuguna cabinet.

later MlA Manoj Tiwari, who had staged dharna outside the Almora district administration; and Hemesh Kharkwal, Furkan Ahmed and Ganesh Godiyal, who made allegation against the state government, were made Parliamentary secretary by the state government. Even state government appointed Narayan Ram Arya as Parliamentary secretary. At present Dhami, who filed petition before the state government to withdraw a case lodged in 2007 but court refused to entertain and issued NBW against the MlA, has been released on bail by the court. Sources said that state government is going to file review petition before the court on June 7. Interestingly on the one hand Dhami spoke against the state government and other hand Union Minister Rawat interacted with party workers at state congress head office on Thursday. It has raised question mark why such a situation has arisen in the State Congress.

Congress MlA from Dharchula Harish Dhami has threatened to resign from the State Assembly over alleged failure of the Government to carry out development works in his constituency.

He had alleged that no development projects in his constituency are being executed by the state government despite submission of several reminders to the state government. He further claimed that he would resign from Vidhan Sabha if state government did not do something to redress his grievances in next 15 days.

Dhami had alleged that not even a single development project has taken off in his constituency ever since the Congress government assumed office one-and-a-half years ago. His demands include construction of 20 roads, two government hospitals at Matkot and Tejam towns and setting up of a polytechnic college in Bansbagar town. On Thursday chief minister office (CMO) officials were seen preparing list of works being executed in the Dhami’s constituency.
