Rawat to inaugurate GDMC tomorrow

PNS

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat would inaugurate the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on Saturday. The Principal of the GDMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that the inaugural ceremony of the college would be presided by Sports and law minister Dinesh Agarwal while the Medical education minister, Dinesh Dhanai would be the guest of honor.

The Mayor of Dehradun Vinod Chamoli would also attend the ceremony.

After many failed attempts to secure the clearance of the Medical Council of India (MCI) the college finally got its act together on June 08 when the MCI awarded its letter of Permission (lOP) based on which the college would admit 150 students in its first batch of MBBS course this year.

The college would take admissions based on the performance in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and the process of the on line counselling for the same is currently in progress.

The administrative and academic sections of the medical college have come up at Patel Nagar.

To fulfil the criteria of a 350 bed associated hospital the State Government transferred the erstwhile district hospitals, the Doon hospital and Doon female hospital to the medical college.

The State Government is now contemplating to hand over a plot of land measuring about 150 bighas to the medical college to develop its own associated hospital.

This is being necessitated due to the problem faced by the people due to absence of a district hospital.

As per the norms of the MCI, the medical college would have to continuously upgrade the facilities in the associated hospital and medical college in next five years to become a full fledged medical college.

To meet these

requirements the GDMC would have to upgrade the 300 bed associated hospital to 750 bed one.
