PNS

In a bid to provide succour to the sugarcane farmers, who have been running here and there to get their dues from the sugar mills, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has written a letter to the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government and demanded Rs 400 crore financial assistance so that their dues would be paid before the start of the crushing season for the year 2014-15.

In his letter, Chief Minister mentioned that the sugarcane farmers are yet to receive payment of their produce for the last crushing season 2013-14 while the sugar mills could not sell off the sugar resulting in their inability to pay the farmers. Although Uttarakhand  Government has given several incentives to the farmers and even sugar mills have reaped benefits from the special package of Union Government, but these steps are not enough to redress the grievance of the farmers, the letter said.

In view of this, the state government needs financial package to pay the arrears of the sugarcane farmers. It is an urgent need of the farmers because sugar mills’ financial condition is not well.

If you release the financial package then the state would be able to disburse the arrears of the Sugarcane farmers. It will help a lot because after two months the new crushing season would begin. For this, the Uttarakhand Government needs Rs 400 crore special financial package with immediate effect, the Chief Minister’s letter ran.
