Additional Secretary Ravinath Raman who assumed charge as Dehradun DM for a second time on Friday said that his priority would be to make Dehradun a model district in terms of implementation of welfare schemes launched by the Centre and the State Government effectively. He took charge from outgoing DM Chandresh Kumar. Earlier, he was Dehradun DM for a short period from April 20 to July 10, 2012.

While interacting with media persons, Raman said that the experiences gained during his earlier stint as Dehradun DM and the same he gained while executing government policies as additional secretary in the Secretariat would help him to implement the government–sponsored schemes effectively in the district. Raman further said that different issues like execution of National Food Security Scheme, resolving traffic congestions, checking crimes, enrollment of 25 percent children belonging to economically weaker sections of society in public schools under Right to Education Act among others are the challenges before him, adding that they will be addressed better with efficient coordination among the department officers in the district.

Dehradun being the state capital, the residents are justified in expecting effective execution of government- sponsored schemes and fulfillment of the government’s vision on the ground, he said. The officers of other departments would be taken on board to ensure perfect co-ordination.To address public grievances, he would stress on ensuring coordination among different departmental wings, including MDDA, MCD, Police and other departments.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s developmental vision for the region will be given shape, the DM said.Emphasis will be laid on matters like public distribution system, education, health services and employment generation under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) in the district.

“Each year, thousands of new vehicles are coming up in the city. However, the existing infrastructure is inadequate to take up the increasing load.  In collaboration with police department, he would take steps to ensure smooth traffic in the city, he added. The district officials have been directed to stress on improving public delivery system. In regards to transfer of forest land, the officers concerned will be directed to work in coordination with other departmental officers.

His focus would be on providing clean and corruption-free administration and redressing public grievances related to cleanliness, traffic, roads, lands and water.Coordination among different departments is an imperative for smooth functioning of the administrative machinery. Keeping this in view, he would soon convene a meeting of officers of various departments, he informed.

Apart from taking measures for improving traffic congestion, keeping a check on crimes, removing encroachments at areas like Pacific Mall, Chakrata Road, T-estate and Golden Forest are major challenges before the new Dehradun DM.
