Normal life remained tense in Ramnagar, that hitherto remained busy with tourism activities following death of Rohit Pandey, an NSUI activist, who took the extreme step of immolating himself on account of student politics on November 4.

Though no any untoward incident has been reported since the sad demise of the student leader, the local administration and police put on high alert in the town as soon as the news of the death of NSUI leader Rohit Pandey at a Delhi hospital on Monday night broke out.

Health of Rohit Pandey suddenly deteriorated on Monday night and subsequently he succumbed to his injuries. The body of the deceased student leader is expected to reach at his native place Ramnagar till late Tuesday evening. His body would be consigned to flame on Wednesday, as the local people here said. Since heavy deployment of police has been made, situation remained quite under control in Ramnagar on Tuesday. Markets did their routine business and schools also remained opened as usual.

However, the Prantiya Vyapaar Mandal Ramnagar, has decided to call Ramnagar bandh on Wednesday in memory of the deceased student leader.   The way a youth has lost his life that is quite shocking for all of us, said members of the Prantiya Vyapar Mandal Ramnagar.  So we have decided to call Ramnagar bandh on Wednesday, they added.  Though scuffles were  going on rival party leaders for a quite some time in view of the student body polls. The matter that led to immolation only became uncontrollable when bikes of some ABVP activists were burnt at Maldhanchaur in Ramnagar allegedly by the rival student party activists.

Subsequently, a case was registered by the Ramnagar police against activists of the  rival party NSUI for allegedly putting the bikes of the ABVP leaders   on fire. So, the students leaders belonging to NSUI started demanding removal of SHO Ramnagar and withdrawal of the cases registered against them, threatening to immolate if their demand is not met.

One of the students, Rohit, finally,  tried to immolate himself   at lakhanpur in Ramnagar, receiving serious burn injuries.     He was taken to a Delhi hospital for further treatment. But he finally succumbed to his burn injuries in Delhi on Monday night. In the meanwhile, DIG G S Martolya, leading the security forces in Ramnagar, appealed to the people to maintain peace and tranquility.  At the same time he has also asked the law enforcement agencies to be alert to deal with the situation effectively.
