A day ahead of Vidhan Sabha Budget Session, the traffic in the State capital was found in a mess due to the rallies taken out by various outfits like NSUI, Jewellers Union, Akhil Bharatiya Janwadi Mahila Samiti members and Asha workers. Vehicles moved at a snail’s pace at many places and public transports took over an hour more to reach their destinations. Traffic jams started in the city in the morning and continued till late evening. As the activists loyal to different organisations started reaching Dehradun in their hordes traffic jams ensued at various crossings across the city, snarls that were found continuing long after the rallies were over.
long queues of vehicles were seen stuck up at various crossings at Survey Chowk, Dilaram Chowk, Clock Tower and other places as the rallies moved on.
Commuters had to wait for a long time to get autos or buses to reach destinations during the noon when the students came out of their schools.
A bike- borne Rohan Bhatt, found stuck at Survey Chowk, said that if traffic is so messy a day before the Vidhan Sabha Budget session begins it is understandable how things would be like if the outfits take out rallies during the session. “The role of police is pathetic. They hardly do nothing to give us relief,” he said.
Vikas, resident of Dhamawala, said that despite the Garhwal division Commissioner CS Napalchyal having ordered the administrative officers to ensure that no rally passes through Clock Tower things keep happening. “Police have failed to execute the order strictly,” he added.
