Rajasthan’s political drama; Cong holds protest

PNS

In protest against what it termed as an attempt to murder of democracy in Rajasthan the Uttarakhand Congress held a massive demonstration here on Monday.

As part of the nationwide call given by All India Congress Committee (AICC) to the Congressmen to protest at Raj Bhawans against the attempts of the BJP at the behest of Union Government to dislodge Ashok Gehlot led Congress Government in Rajasthan, the Uttarakhand Congress took out a march towards the Governor house.

On the day a large number of Congress workers and leaders assembled at the state headquarters of the party from where they marched towards the Rajbhawan. The Congressmen carried black umbrellas with them which gave an imposing look to the march.

The procession however was stopped by the police near Hathibadkala. Some of the Congress workers tried to force their way past the barricades but a heavy posse of policemen foiled their attempt. The agitated Congress workers squatted on the road in front of the barrier.

Addressing the workers, former chief minister and general secretary Harish Rawat appreciated the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh and Congress party for organising a successful demonstration. He said that the manner in which Congress party workers are engaged in nationwide fight to oppose the attempts to dislodge democratically elected Governments reminds him of the year 2016 when the Congress party workers of Uttarakhand fought the Modi Government against bringing down Congress Government in Uttarakhand.

The PCC president Pritam Singh said that the Narendra Modi Government is hell bent to destroy and pollute the democratic institutions in the country and is brazenly patronising activities like horse trading of MLAs to bring down democratically elected governments.

Giving examples of Goa, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh he said that the manner in which the elected governments were dislodged to make way for BJP shows the attempt to strike at the very soul of democracy.

Launching into a scathing attack on BJP, Pritam Singh said that the party has thrown its full weight for dislodge Ashok Gehlot led Congress Government in Rajasthan.

He added that the rebel Congress MLAs are enjoying hospitality of the Khattar Government of Haryana and under the pressure of the centre, the governor is not able to take decision on the request of CM Gehlot to convene an assembly session.

Former Minister Hira Singh Bisht said that the only achievement of the Narendra Modi government is to destabilise democratically elected governments of opposition. Former Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani, Manish Khanduri, former MLA Rajkumar, vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana also addressed the party workers. The Congress leaders handed over a memorandum directed to the President of India to city magistrate who took it on behalf of Governor Baby Rani Maurya.
