PNS

The newly-installed digital radiography machine at the Doon hospital would be formally handed over to the radiology department of the hospital on Tuesday. The Rs 1.5 crore machine is capable of producing high resolution digital X-rays at a very fast speed. The Allengers Company which had installed the machine would hand it over to the hospital authorities.

The Head of the Department of Radiology, Doon Hospital, Dr Yateendra Singh told The Pioneer that the technicians of the department would be given training for handling this machine and the patients can avail the facility of this high tech machine from Wednesday.

Digital radiography is a type of X ray in which digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. The machine is able to digitally transfer and enhance the image for the benefit of the radiologist. The machine is very fast as it bypasses the chemical processing time of the traditional X rays.  The Machine also uses less radiation to produce an image of similar contrast than the conventional method. The machine also has the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display of the image. Dr Singh said that the machine can do more than 300 X rays in a day.

Incidentally Doon hospital will be the first hospital in the state to have the facility of the Digital radiography machine. Doon hospital is the largest government hospital in the state with more than 4000 patients visiting the Out Patient Departments of the hospital daily. The radiology department does 125-150 X rays daily at present.
