Despite much talk about improving the civic facilitation and quality of roads in the provisional State capital Dehradun, another spell of rain on Friday further exposed the deteriorated level of these two aspects in town.
While various areas of the city experienced water logging due to various factors including choked sewers and encroachments, the patches of roads recently ‘repaired’ by the authorities developed large potholes after just a couple of spells of rainfall.
Observers point out that though the State Government had some time ago undertaken a much publicised drive against encroachments along a particular road in Dehradun, little concrete has resulted from the effort as far as improving civic facilitation is concerned. Due to factors like encroachment, sewers choked due to improper garbage disposal and other factors, various parts of the town experienced water logging both on Thursday night and on Friday for varied periods.
locals point out that despite much talk and official meetings, the successive State Governments have failed to address and resolve the problem faced every year during the rainy season in places which are frequently water logged.
Even a portion of the inter state bus terminus is submerged in more than ankle-deep water on days when there is medium rainfall.
Despite measures taken by the authorities against encroachments and towards improving civic sanitation and improving drainage, the problems resulting from the lack of these aspects continued to cause inconvenience to the public on Friday.
