For alcoholics, drug addicts and their family members, a public information meeting is being organised by Al- Anon support group on April 16. The programme would be held at Town hall of Nagar Nigam Dehradun.
In the programme group members from Delhi would share their experiences of alcoholism and how they overcame the addiction.
Al- Anon is worldwide support group for family members and friends of people suffering from alcoholism. The spokesperson of the group said that the alcoholism is a family illness and changed attitudes can aid recovery. It is an anonymous programme for the benefit of the family members. The Chairperson of Astha Group of Al Anon, Dehradun, Jasmine K said, “ In Dehradun we have been meeting since 1999. Currently we meet at St Josephs School, Rajpur road every Sunday between 5.30 to 7 pm. These meetings are neither group therapy not counselling. Here we only share our experience, strength and hope which helps us to understand addiction and how it is a family disease, slowly leading to recovery.’’
