In a major relief to the associated hospital of Doon Medical College (DMC) grappling with a crisis on medicine front, the State Government has directed the health directorate to continue supplying medicines to the hospital. The Principal Secretary (PS) Health, Om Prakash directed the officials of health department to provide medicines to the hospital till the DMC floats its own tenders. Following the orders of PS, pharmacists of the hospital rushed to the health directorate with their requirement of medicines. It is expected that the availability of the medicines would improve from Wednesday.
The medicine crisis in the hospital was triggered by the refusal of the health directorate to provide medicines to the hospital with a plea that the DMC is now part of medical education department. The DMC initiated the process of inviting fresh tenders for medicine but it is taking time.
The hospital is now facing a situation where 35 life saving medicines are off its shelf similarly the patients are forced to but anti rabies vaccines and glucose from the market. It is worth mentioning here that the health directorate has ample stock of medicines and the Doon hospital was one of the biggest beneficiary of these medicines but after transfer of hospital to medical college the babus of the department halted the process of medicine supply citing technicalities.
The medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr K K Tamta said that hospital has submitted its requirement to the health directorate on Tuesday and the most of the medicines would now be available.
