Protesters seek higher entry-level pay scale for primary teachers

PNS

In support of their various demands the teachers belonging to Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), Prathmik Shikshak Sangh (PSS) staged a one day symbolic protest at Parade ground here on Sunday.

These B.Ed./TET qualified candidates were selected in the year 2013 as primary teachers in the schools of State Government. They are now demanding that the State Government like central Government should increase the entry level scale of the primary teachers and fix it at Rs 16,290.

Under the banner of TET PSS the teachers assembled at the old Raipur bus stand on Sunday morning and held a demonstration.

The president of the organisation Anup Jadli told The Pioneer that 2253 teachers were appointed in the primary schools of State in September 2012 but these teachers were given proper appointment letter and scale of primary teachers in August 2013 only.

He said that the education department gave them a paltry stipend of only Rs 7,000 pm for almost one year while the teachers appointed in the ongoing recruitment drive would be given proper appointment and scale from the very first day of their selection.

These teachers are now demanding that the Government should give them the benefit of proper salary scale from the day they were first appointed in the schools. Jadli said that the newly recruited teachers are also being appointed in accessible blocks while the previous batch was posted only in the inaccessible blocks.

“The department has opened all blocks for appointment of teachers this time for example in Dehradun district new teachers are being considered for appointment in all the blocks while the previous batch was appointed only in remote Chakrata and Kalsi blocks, which is discrimination on part of the department”, he said.

The organisation is also demanding payment of inaccessible allowance, benefit of old pension scheme, implementation of transparent transfer policy and benefit of Assured Career Progression (ACP) to the teachers. The organisation threatened to intensify their agitation if the education department fails to the fulfill their demands.
