PNS

The State Government has ordered an enquiry into the alleged scuffle that occurred between the Nainital district police and devotees on the occasion  of Nanda Devi Mahotsav in Nainital on Tuesday.

Reviewing the law and order situation of the district on Wednesday, MH Khan, Principal Secretary (Home and Jail), said that Uttarakhand is a devbhumi and strong action will be taken against those who are found  guilty.

He directed the District Magistrate Nainital, Akshat Gupta, to conduct a probe into alleged scuffle. He also called upon the officials concerned of the district administration and the Nainital Police to intensify patrolling during the night.

Reportedly, most of the anti-social elements and criminals come from outside Uttarakhand. More so, the jail inmates here are often rather active in executing their criminal activities through secret networks. Therefore, it is vital to keep vigil on such anti-social elements by way of intensifying night patrolling, added the Principal Secretary, Home and Jail, Uttarakhand Government.

He also asked the officials concerned of the Nainital district administration to conduct regular checking of jails and to keep a tab on the activities being carried out from inside the jails. At the same time, Khan also suggested to maintain vigil on the jail inmates’ activities, keeping in view their past records so as to ensure that incidents that happen often inside the jails do not recur.

He also informed that efforts are being made to modernise jails with adequate deployment of force and medical staff. For modernisation of jails in the state, a proposal to seek assistance from the Government of India is also being prepared, Khan further said. Among others Anant Ram Chauhan, DIG, Kumaon range,  Akshat Gupta, District Magistrate, Nainital,  Vimmi Sachdeva, SSP, Naintial  were also present during the meet.
