Private schools reject proposed regulatory authority

PNS

The private school operators believe that the proposed plan of State Government to introduce a regulatory authority for private schools would create an unnecessary interference in their work and promote red tape in the governance.

Taking a note of constant complaints against private schools the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had recently stated that a private school regulatory authority would be soon constituted to control the activities of the private schools. The private school operators are however taking the order with a pinch of salt.

The Principal of Grace Academy here Benjamin Newton told The Pioneer that state government should better spend its energies to improve the conditions of its schools. He said that if academic and other facilities in the government schools are improved then there would be no need of the private schools.

His views were echoed by Principal of Nanhi Dunya School, Kiran Ulfat Goyal. She said that it is correct that many private schools harass parents but creation of an authority would create an inspector raj. Goyal said that the State Government should think as to how the level of education in its schools is taking a plunge despite of the fact that handsome salaries are being paid to its teachers.

The common people are however hoping that the proposed authority would check the owners of the private schools who are dictatorial in their actions and attitude. Sunil Rana a resident of Defence Colony said that authority should clearly define the limit to which these private schools can increase their fees.
