PNS

Indian Police Service officer Pushpak Jyoti who recently assumed charge of Garhwal Range Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) said on Monday that the range level police officers would prepare a dossier of hardened criminals and clamp down on them to ensure that they cannot vitiate peace during the election.

He further said that to motivate the policemen to work in areas outside their assigned briefs, awards would be given at the district and range level.

Jyoti said that police officers have been asked to compile detailed data consisting of names and photos of the criminals who have been recently arrested for heinous crimes. “They would provide all information and photographs of such criminals in a CD (compact disk) and submit it at range office, district crime record bureau, police stations and police posts. We would review them each month,” he said.

To bring the fugitives back to the jails, Range Beta Scheme has been launched at Range level, he said, adding that  the border areas in the range area, whether they are in cities or towns or rural belts, would be sealed to help police launch drive  to re-apprehend the  fugitives. “Besides, we would launch full-blown drive against the menace of narcotic abuse in the schools and the colleges,” Jyoti said.  He further said that the range district police officers have been directed to identify sensitive and ultra- sensitive areas from the election point of view and take action accordingly. “Assembly election drawing nearer, I have directed the police officers to conduct inspection of anti-riot equipments like firearms, body protectors, helmets, sticks and others to check their current condition whether they can be used or not,” he said.

Commiserating with the people, lining up in queues at the banks and ATMs, post demonetization drive, he said that police are extending their helping hands to enable them to withdraw money, sans any trouble.
