To study the changes made in Tihar Jail in terms of strengthening security and providing facilities to the inmates, a team of jail officers led by IG Jail PVK Prasad would visit Tihar Jail soon. Prasad said, “The post of IG jail had remained an exclusive domain of the IAS officers since Uttarakhand came up in 2000. The tradition ruptured after I, an IPS, was assigned with the post. My first priority would be to strengthen the security and to fill up the vacant posts in the jails located across the State.” Several changes have been introduced in Tihar Jail over the past few years. There is no fund crunch either.
“We would try our best to re-jig the infrastructure in the jails here after the model the Tihar Jail exemplifies. Providing the inmates with vocational training, education and other facilities are proposals we would keep in mind while we visit the premier jail in Delhi,” he added.
