local faults/ repair works badly hit electricity supply in many parts of Haldwani including Gas Godam area for over five hours here on Thursday.
The power supply that was disrupted due to some repair works/ local faults, the officials concerned informed, around 1 in the afternoon could be restored only after 6pm on Thursday.
The electricity supply had to be cut on account of some repair works near Kapil Complex on the Kaladhungi Road, said Prayank Pandey, SDO, the power department, Haldwani, while talking to The Pioneer. Hopefully, the power supply would be regularised soon, he added.
It may be recalled that this is the second time within less than a week when this city have had to experience long hours of power cuts. The fact is that similar situation of the power breakdown was noticed on April 28 when the voting was going on for the local civic body elections.
However, the people here are of the view that as the demand for power goes up during the summer season due to increasing atmospheric temperature, so it seems the power situation is not going to be less tougher ahead.
Presently, according to the figures provided by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited( UPCl), whereas the demand for power is around 33 million unit (mu) against the availability of about 32 mu (13 mu from the indigenous sources, 12 mu from the Central pool and rest about 7 mu from other sources), the demand for the electricity , as the officials concerned here believe, is expected to remain quite high during peak hours in the summer season.
The most concerning fact is that whereas the demand for power remains high, the generation from the domestic sources which is around 13 mu presently also goes down drastically during summer season due to less amount of water in different rivers engaged in power generation.
