The power supply at various places in Garhwal and Kumaon regions was affected after the power generation dipped in the State-run hydro power projects due to low water level in the rivers caused by snowfall in the higher reaches and other technical snags involving the projects.
Power demand increased up to 36.00 MU on Friday and consequently, the rural residents of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar faced three- hour power outages while one hour power- cut was imposed on the small towns of Kumaon regions by 5 pm on Friday.
Due to overload at 160 MVA transformer of Rishikesh based 220 KV sub-station, power- cut was imposed for two hours in non-continuous industry area in Haridwar. Due to fall of 33 KV line at Ajabpur feeder at ISBT, Dehradun at 7.30 am on Friday, power- cut was imposed at Nathanpur, Badripur, Jogiwala, Dedarpuram, Mothorowala, Kargi and Dehrakhas. Power supply resumed after 10.50 am the same day.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) on Friday was forced to an emergency ‘rostering’ in various places due to technical snags involving the projects.
UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan said that the demand for electricity in the State on Friday was 35.79 million units whereas 34.15 million units of electricity were available from the state- based hydro power units, central sectors and other sources.
UPCl received 6.23 MU from various state- based hydro power units on Thursday. Some of the State run- hydro power projects have remained non-functional due to various reasons which are causing dips in power generation capacity of the State.
Power generation has remained stalled in the Hydro Power limited Khatima (42 MW). UPCl is receiving power supply of 30 MW from Maneri Bhali-I (90 MW) while 68 MW power supply from Kalagarh (198 MW) from Friday. The State received just 11.29 MU against the normal volume of 16 MU per day on Friday.
UPCl would get 4.8 MU power from Haryana in the form of power banking on Saturday while 1 MU would be received from Uttarakhand’s sugar mills. 2.4 MU power was received from various power agencies which were purchased by UPCl. In addition to this, we would get 5.00 MU from Indian Energy Exchanges and this would help us to bridge the deficit on Saturday, it is learnt.
