Despite consistent rains bringing much needed relief to the residents from the heat, it has also become the one of the major causes for the power outage in the capital city.
Several colonies faced power cut ranging from two to five hours and more in the capital city. The electricity pole was uprooted at New Cantt road, last night thus became the main reason for the power cuts. The department was forced to implement load shedding for four hours each in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts of the State and small towns of the State for nearly two hours on Monday. The electricity supply is also reported to be disrupted in various localities.
The electricity poles were washed away at Majra, Balawala, Niranjapur and New Cantt road. The power supply is reported to be disrupted at DEAl, Badripur, Kuanwala, Vidhan Sabha feeder including New Cantt, EC road, Dalanwala, Chander Nagar, Patel Nagar, Eidgah, Rajender Nagar, GMS Road, Vaani Vihar etc.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) officials claimed that the department had sustained loss of crores due to the inclement weather. The power supply was reported to be disrupted at Uttarkashi after 33 KV sub-station at Badkot-Purola-Bhatwadi got damaged similarly in Joshiyara after four electricity poles were washed away.
The inclement weather also proved fatal for the residents in Tehri as 33 KV station washed away at Thayun, Tehri and 2x3 MVA transformer was submerged under debris and the control room was flooded with water. The situation is equally worst at Chamoli district as 33 KV Narayanbagad Deval line was damaged after electricity pole was washed away. At Badrinath too the situation remains the same as Badrinath-Govindghat feeder and lambagad line is damaged.
The Rudraprayag-Ukhimath and 33 KV Kedarnath feeder is also reported to be disrupted. One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that stern instructions are already released to the linemen and mobile team to immediately rectify the technical snags and ensure round the clock power to the consumers.
