The tall claims made by the department concerned that no stone would be left unturned to provide pothole free roads to the residents proved useless as several huge potholes have emerged on the city roads across the capital city.
Shockingly, the recent patchwork done by the PWD is also of no use as the repaired roads have started giving up after experiencing fresh rainfall in the capital city. After experiencing the incessant rains in the capital city, it has turned extremely difficult for the commuters to commute on the city roads and the situation has turned extremely difficult at night.
Ironically, nine PWD engineers who were suspended by the CM on corruption charges with immediate effect, resumed their duties again after their suspension was cancelled. Sources confirmed that the suspension was cancelled as the department faces crunch of manpower; besides the State is facing the wrath of natural calamities for the last two months.
The seriousness for repairing roads could be gauzed by the fact that out of 2,224 roads that were reported to be blocked after facing natural disaster in the month of June, only 1,857 connecting routes and roads are declared open for the vehicular flow of traffic in the disaster hit areas of the State.
Among all the affected districts, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi district is believed to be among the worst affected districts. "We keep filling up the potholes, but continuous rain exposes most of them time and again. Now that it has been raining since the last three days, we are not able to fill up the potholes that we had already covered.
We have not yet filled up new potholes but will be doing it soon," said one of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer. He further said that rains have been hampering the department efforts for repairing the potholes across the city.
After ruling out the use of inferior quality material during recently done patchwork in the last month, he told that the strict departmental action would be surely taken against those nodal agencies that use inferior quality materials during repairing or constructing the roads in any part of the capital city.
He assured that the repairing of roads and filling of potholes will resume, once weather clears in the capital city.
