Convinced that the stepmother Meenu Kaur had murdered the 21-year- old girl Prapti at their Ansari Marg residence in Dehradun on February 8, police are now awaiting the forensic report after receiving which they would file the charge sheet regarding the case. Police said that they had reached the conclusion on the basis of the recorded statements of the neighbours and those working in the household of the murdered. “We have ruled out the possibility of the complicity of others in the murder,” said Arvind Kumar, an investigating officer of the case which had sent shock waves in the city after it came to light that aspiring air hostess had been murdered by her stepmother. Prapti’s body had been found split into two parts with a machete and kept in a sack in her bedroom.
He added that the charge sheet of the case would be filed once the forensic report is received. He further said that sections 302/201 of IPC would be included in the charge sheet on the basis of the evidences which came later.
Police had earlier revealed that Kaur had kept the body in a sack to be dumped at an opportune time. She had been sent to jail after she was produced in the court. According to police, Kaur had murdered Prapti as the latter had been depriving her stepmother of the earning from the property left by her father who had died about two years ago.
It is learnt that Prapti was giving her stepmother just Rs 2,000 per month for her personal expenses out of Rs 30, 000 being received from rent. Kaur had confessed during questioning to have murdered Prapti as she was angry over her stepdaughter’s treatment. On February 8, Kaur had filed a missing report at Patelnagar police station, saying that she had gone to drop Prapti at ISBT from where she was to board a bus for Delhi. Suspicion had arisen after police investigation found that Prapti was at home during the time when she was supposed to be at ISBT as per her stepmother’s statement.
The Dehradun Kotwali circle officer Chandra Mohan said that the police teams, formed to investigate the case, are now reviewing call records of the conversation between Kaur and her stepdaughter which would form parts of the charge sheet to be filed.
