Uttarakhand Police will seek police remand of gangster Amit Malik alias ‘Bhura’ from the court to interrogate him in cases registered in various police stations in the State. In the course of investigation to crack the ATM loot committed in Patiala recenlty, Punjab police had arrested Bhura along with his aide Sachin Khokhar from a rented accommodation in Patiala on April 4.

Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu said that a team headed by Special Task Force (STF) DIG, Ajay Prakash Anshuman which was sent to Punjab on Saturday night to interrogate Bhura, returned to Dehradun on Monday.  Police sources said that a team headed by Dehradun circle officer Manoj Katiyal had also reached Punjab and returned to Dehradun on Monday. A total of 52 cases have been registered against Bhura in various police stations of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. In the course of interrogation of Bhura by STF police, it has been revealed that Bhura had been in hiding at locations in Ujjan (Madhya Pradesh), Chandigarh and Patiala.

Bhura used to get money from aides of gangster Rathi, who is presently imprisoned in Pauri jail.  Based on the several cases registered in various police stations of Uttarakhand against Bhura, the State police will seek Bhura’s police remand after expiry of police remand secured by the Punjab police from the court in connection with the loot case in Patiala.

After securing police remand of Bhura, Uttarakhand police would try to recover the SlR rifle and AK-47 rifles snatched by Bhura’s accomplices from the policemen during his escape from Baghpat. Sources said that apart from Uttarakhand police, the police of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh too would seek his police remand from the Punjab court. It will be interesting to see, how soon Uttarakhand police would be able to secure Bhura’s police remand from the court.

On December 15 last year, Bhura had escaped from custody of Uttarakhand police while being taken to the court in Baghpat in connection with a murder case.  The gangsters managed to give the armed escort of Bhura a slip by reportedly sprinkling Chili powder in the eyes of the cops.

In the sensational escape, the gangsters were also able to get away with two AK-47 rifles and one self-loading rifle (SlR). The State Governments of UP and Uttarakhand had announced a bounty of Rs5 lakh each on Bhura’s head.
