Besides, in order to control such crimes targeting the women in the district, Udham Singh Nagar police have decided to revive operation ‘Saurya’, launched around two years ago in the district with woman police officers executing it.

The team members have been directed to conduct drives randomly around schools, colleges, busy places like markets, bus stations and railway station, the places from where  cases of eve-teasing and the like are reported in alarming number, said the district senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sadanand Date while taking to The Pioneer on Sunday.  These teams will also work as fast response teams if crimes related to women are reported from areas under the jurisdictional limits, he added.

The SSP further said, “In view of increasing crimes like eve-teasing, abduction, domestic violence, dowry and rape, the operation ‘Saurya’ is being  re-activated in the district.”

This team is to be headed by a lady sub-inspector and she would be assisted by six constables, including female constables. The team in-charge would equipped with weapon while the constables would carry bamboos and helmets during the campaign.

“Apart from working as a fast response team, these teams will conduct drives in hotels and dhabas to review security there. The team would randomly launch vehicle checking drives at important places. It would see to it that the girls are not subjected to eve teasing near the schools and colleges.  Besides, the team would conduct drives at parks and other public places to check illegal activities apart from restoring confidence among women about their security. Apart from this, workshops and seminars are being organised periodically at educational institutions to caution the students about crimes against women at different places like school and college campuses” Date said. He added that they are receiving  distressed phone calls from the women being subjected to multiple crimes.
