In connection with murder of a young lady by her stepmother, Dehradun Kotwali circle officer Chandra Mohan said that police teams are investigating the case thoroughly and if needed, the police would approach the court to seek police remand of the stepmother who is in Suddhowala jail. The stepmother, Monu Kaur, allegedly murdered 21-year-old Prapti Singh at their Ansari Marg residence in Dehradun, cut her body into two and kept it concealed in the home, waiting for an opportunity to dump it.
After the murder was revealed a couple of days ago, Kaur, who was widowed about two years ago, was sent to jail on the weekend after being produced in the court.
Police sources said that she allegedly murdered her step-daughter due to dispute over earnings and property.
After Prapti’s fathers death, the family was dependent on Rs 30, 000 rent from a shop out of which Prapti reportedly used to give Rs 2, 000 to her step mother monthly.
A police officer said that Kaur confessed to having killed Prapti because according to her, she was fed up with her behaviour.
Another police officer said that Prapti’s father, who was a property dealer, died about two years ago. The girl was pursuing air hostess course from a private institute. “So far we have not made any new arrests as Kaur has confessed to having killed her step daughter,” he added.
On February 8, Kaur filed a report in Patelnagar police station, claiming that Prapti was missing. She averred that she had gone to drop Prapti to the ISBT from where the step daughter boarded a bus for Delhi.
However police investigation revealed that their mobile phones were located at home and not at ISBT at the time when they were supposedly at the bus terminal.
