Police plan to rehabilitate child beggars identified

PNS

Prior to the third phase of Operation Mukti set to start from June 1, multiple stakeholders will conduct their own field assessment of the child beggars in order to plan measures for rehabilitating them.

Dehradun Circle Officer (city) Shekhar Suyal, who is also the nodal officer of the campaign on Monday took a meeting with different stakeholders including District Probation Officer and several non-governmental organisations.

The CO said, “We will be organising a medical camp near Bindal or ISBT with the help of stakeholders. For about 200 children, few NGOs have taken responsibility to arrange uniforms and other necessary items.”

When asked about the rehabilitation plan he said, “Some of the children that we have identified do not have local identification cards. They will be migrating again maybe in a month or two.

It may not be possible for us to connect them with the schemes. However, for those who are permanent residents of Uttarakhand, we are trying to connect them with government aided schemes. Some NGOs came forward to provide skill development classes. District Probation Officer will also be helping us with the government aided schemes for children from deprived background.”

It is pertinent to mention here that during the campaign against child begging in the city, district police have identified 292 children out of which 126 are from other states.
