Police officers told to follow model code of conduct strictly

PNS

Two days after the model code of conduct (MCC) kicked in for the state, slated to go to polls on February 15, state director general of police MA Ganapathy asked the police officers to follow MCC strictly in their jurisdictional limits during a video conferencing with district police chiefs, range chiefs and PAC/IRB commandants on Friday.   While stressing on fool-proof arrangements to ensure peaceful polling, the DGP asked the district police chiefs to make those in charge of police station and police post to sign undertakings, pledging that they are adopting a zero tolerance for illegal mining activities and illegal supply of liquor in their jurisdictional areas. Moreover, the district police chiefs on their part should submit such affidavits at the police headquarters. “Flying squad being formed at police headquarters to conduct random checking in the districts, action will follow against the errant officers accordingly,” he warned.

He added that FIRs would be lodged against the accused once an incident occurs anywhere in the state. The district police officers have been directed to inform their subordinates about the election laws, rules and MCC in details to ensure that MCC is implemented strictly in letter and spirit.

lauding the state police for being a disciplined force, Ganapathy asked the senior police officers to do everything to help the force rise up to the challenge adequately.

The district police chiefs have been directed to arrange meetings of the representatives of various political parties and also the independent candidates with the district magistrates in a couple of days. From such meetings, DMs and others would seek cooperation from the political parties to ensure peaceful election and implementation of MCC.

Ganapathy stressed on police seizing licensed guns and taking turns to inspect the sensitive and ultra- sensitive polling centres and polling booths randomly.

The police officers should intensify police patrolling and go for constant checking of the inter-district and inter-state posts apart from putting flying squad and static surveillance team active and alert, he added.
