District police have succeeded in arresting three accused of an Inter-State gang and recovered 20 stolen two-wheelers valued at about Rs 10 lakh. The accused reportedly used to work as a gang with two on the lookout and one person using the master key to start the vehicle and then all three of them used to park it at ISBT Dehradun or in the corn field at the backside of Mahant Indiresh Hospital.

The accused have been identified as gang leader Teetu Soni (28), Rahul Kumar (26) and Neelpath (24), all natives of Bijnor in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said, “As the maximum complaints of two-wheeler theft we received were from near the railway station we wanted to first check CCTV footage from there, but there weren’t any CCTV installed there so we had to take a scientific approach.

Police team with Circle Officer Shekhar Suyal as head did a commendable job. Manufacturers of the recovered vehicles are being asked to provide information about the real owner of the said vehicle.”

According to the information provided by the police, the accused first prepared a master key from a rag picker and then started targeting two wheelers. Speaking with media on Friday accused Teetu said that they used to sell these two wheelers for Rs 6000 or Rs 7000 a unit.

During the interrogation the accused said that a friend of theirs in Bijnor, Bhupendra Singh gave them the idea. Teetu further said that he used to live with his elder brother in Azad Colony, Dehradun. The police think that the accused used to sell these two wheelers to those people who are not well aware about paperwork and correct number plates, which is why they used to sell the stolen vehicles at such low rates.
