Taking serious note of two nearly back-to-back incidents of two jail inmates from Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts escaping from police custody, State Director General of Police Anil K Raturi has directed the police chiefs of the two districts to take measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents and also to fix the responsibility of the police officers concerned.
Senior police officers have been directed to ensure that the policemen deputed on escort of accused are briefed properly,
Notably, Shamshad, 23, an inmate of Haldwnai sub-jail, had escaped from Sushila Tiwari Hospital during his treatment on Friday. However, he had been rearrested by police from Machchhi Bazaar in a few hours. Wakil Ahmed who had been arrested for carrying weapons from Matawala Bagh on Friday and put up in a lockup in the Kotwali police station had escaped the same day. Subsequently, a policeman then on duty had been reverted to police line.
