PNS

In view of the expected huge rush of people at banks on Thursday, the state Police Headquarters has directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and SPs of all districts to take proper security measures in and around banks and ATM machines. In a major decision, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on the recommendation of Narendra Modi government had demonetised currency notes of ` 1000 and ` 500 from midnight of Tuesday. The banks would reopen after one day closure on Thursday while the ATMs would become operational from Friday. It is expected that both the ATMs and Machines would witness a wild rush of anxious account holders eager to exchange currency and deposit demonetised currency on Thursday. In anticipation of such a situation, the police HQ have directed the SSPs and SPs that adequate police force should be stationed at the banks and ATMs after careful assessment of the situation. The directive said that the police officials should strike a proper coordination with all bank in-charges and direct the COs and the station house in-charges for ensuing security of banks and ATMs of the areas under their jurisdiction. The police officers would visit all ATMs and check whether the cameras installed there are functional or not. The police officers have also been asked to earmark the banks and ATMs which are without security guards and undertake measures for their security.

The police have also been asked to prepare a plan to offer proper security to the cash vans in next few days as it is expected that copious transaction of money would occur between the currency chest and banks and between bank and customers.
