In regards to a case of three swindlers having allegedly fled with gold items weighing around three kg, deceiving an Ajabpur- based jeweller Sachin Rastogi on April 26, Dehradun police have arrested three persons - Gurudeep alias Dippa aged 38 and Sahab Singh alias Saba aged 57, both natives of Kurukshetra, Haryana and Gurjant alias Mitthu aged 37, native of Patiala, Punjab on Tuesday.

Police have recovered gold weighing 800 gram and fake driving license from Gurdeep, 345 gram gold and fake driving license from Sahab Singh and 460 gram gold from Gurjant. Police have also seized a car used in committing the same crime aside from 16 fake currencies and one electronic balance from their possession. While being grilled by the police, the trio is learnt to have admitted their offence. Police revealed that the trio was involved in several swindling cases reported from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab with several cases being registered in the police station concerned in these states.

Police sources said that the swindling had happened when Sachin Rastogi had been on the lookout for persons who would purchase the gold items while helping him dodge income tax.

What happened is that the buyers gave the jeweller a bag which they said contained the money fixed for the deal. But when Sachin had opened the bag he had been shocked to find that the bag was stacked with fake currencies and some papers cut into the size of currency.

As per the complaint lodged by Rastogi, a friend of his from Punjab had informed him that his friends from Patiala were coming to him to purchase the gold items and the duo would sell the gold items to a Haridwar- based ascetic.  Accordingly, Sachin had met the trio and the deal had been fixed.  Following which, the gold items had been handed over to them on April 26 and a bag of ‘money’ was exchanged.

Subsequently, a case under sections 420/406/120b and 34 IPC had been registered against unidentified persons in the Nehru Colony police station. Acting on the complaint, several teams, including SOG, had been formed to crack the case.

Police further said that another swindler working with the gang identified as Sumer, native of Narwana, Haryana, is absconding.
