Claiming to have solved the Atul Sharma murder case, the police arrested his wife and her paramour. It is alleged that the wife got her paramour to murder her husband.
Addressing the media here on Monday, the Nainital senior superintendent of police Janmejay Khanduri informed that Atul Sharma's wife Rakhi was having an affair with Ankit Chaudhary who is a BA first year student and hails from a village neighbouring her native place in Bijnor. Due to this she allegedly decided to get rid of her husband. When Sharma's mother went to meet her daughter in Uttar Pradesh, Rakhi also went with her three-year old son to her parents' place in Bijnor on June 6. According to the conspiracy she had allegedly hatched, Chaudhary informed her husband that she would return to Ramnagar on June 13. On June 13, he again called up Sharma to confirm that he was in Ramnagar and then came along with a friend - Sushil to Ramnagar on a motorcycle.
At the Ramnagar roadways bus station, Chaudhary bought some fruits and walked on to Sharma's residence. After sitting there for some time, he got Sharma out and together they walked to the roadways bus station from where along with Sushil they left towards Bhawaniganj.
On the way, Chaudhary bought alcohol and later the trio arrived at an orchard on Kashipur Road. There the trio consumed liquor and after Sharma got drunk, Chaudhary allegedly shot him in the chest with a country-made pistol.
In order to make sure that the victim was dead, he shot him once again in the head at point blank range, killing him on the spot. After the murder, he informed Sharma's wife before leaving for Bijnor with his friend.
Arresting the murder accused from his home in Bijnor, the police also seized the firearm used in the murder, motorcycle and other items used on the day of the murder apart from which the victim's wife was arrested from her home. According to the police, BA first year student, Chaudhary was academically sound having secured first position in high school and intermediate examinations. The third accused in the murder, Sushil is currently absconding with the police continuing their attempts to nab him.
