The police claim to have solved the case of a minor raped and murdered in Uttarkashi district with the arrest of a local mule handler. According to official sources, during the investigation it was found that Mukesh lal alias Bunty, a native of lambgaon in Tehri district present handles a mule in the Bhakda Hitanu area of Dunda Tehsil, used to visit the home of the victim. It was further ascertained that he had also visited the home of the victim a couple of times in a drunk state late at night.The police started searching for Mukesh on the basis of this information. On August 20, he was apprehended by the police and questioned. According to the police, the accused confessed during questioning that he knew the victim and had twice attempted to strike up a conversation with her and her elder sister. He further said that some days ago, when he was drunk, he had visited the home of the victim at about 1 AM and attempted to talk to her but the victim’s mother woke up. Due to this he ran away from the scene. On August 17, late at night, when he was drunk, he yet again visited the home of the victim. He confessed to having abducted her while she was asleep. He also confessed to having raped and then murdering her.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party state chief Ajay Bhatt has expressed satisfaction at the arrest of the accused in the rape and murder of the minor.He claimed that the accused was nabbed because of the chief minister being active and the police working hard in the right direction. He said that the accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He expressed confidence that now this case will be addressed under the new law enacted by the Central Government under which the guilty will sentenced to death for the heinous crime.
