Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the city on December 27 to unveil the foundation stone of the all-weather roads for Char Dhams seems to have sent the ruling party in a tizzy. Observers believe that the saffron party would try to hijack the principal poll plank of the ruling Congress which keeps claiming that it is instrumental for the turnaround that the Char Dhams have seen in the recent time.
Informing about the visit during a Press conference at the BJP’s State headquarters on Thursday, the State BJP president and leader of the Opposition, Ajay Bhatt said that the date of the visit had been confirmed from Delhi. “However, the venue from where the PM would unveil the foundation stone of the important project is yet to be fixed. Things being decided at a short notice, we are now working on the details. We would fix things soon with approval from the SPG,” he added.
State BJP brass is hoping that Modi’s visit would provide the much-needed thrust to the campaigning of the Opposition party. “He was instrumental in the sweeping triumph of the party in the general election-2014. The records say that then PM face of the party addressed one rally in each of the five constituencies. The party won hands down in all of them. We were worried over the PM steering clear of the poll-bound state while going the whole hog to wrest power in Uttar Pradesh. Now, our rank and file are in a buoyant mood, hoping that he would take the people by storm over his crusade against black money and corruption as well as his pitch for development ,” a senior State party leader said.
Bhatt further said that the project would prove a milestone for the State. “The roads linking the world-renowned four centres of pilgrimage would have state of the art roads to be built by the latest technology, now available only in the developed countries. The roads would be so strong that even a disaster of the magnitude of what happened in 2013 would not affect them in the least. For this, the Centre has already released Rs 11,500 crore,” he said.
