Amidst the restrictions imposed by the Election Commission in the wake of the objections raised by Chief Minister Harish Rawat over the timing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar addressed the Commanders’ Conference held at Indian Military Academy in Dehradun on Saturday. Earlier, a large number of BJP leaders and activists, including the former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and senior State BJP office-bearers like Naresh Bansal and Vinay Goyal aide from Doiwala, Rishikesh and Rajpur Road candidates Trivendra Singh Rawat, Premchand Aggarwal and Khazan Das were present at the airport.
It is learnt from reliable sources that ways to strengthen the borders and to deal with the growing frustration of the jawans were discussed threadbare during the high-profile congregation.
Election Commission maintaining a strict vigil all through, no official Press note involving the addresses of the VVIPs and the agenda of the conference reached the media.
