Although the department concerned has decided to carry widening and renovation of the inter-crossings in the Capital city, sources said that the department concerned should prepare  stringent plans to complete all the pending works in the given time frame, else the commuters would be among the major sufferers.

Officials said that the decision to widen the inter crossing has been taken in order to overcome the problem of traffic congestion across the Capital city especially during the peak hours.

Well established sources revealed that the 16 crossings have already been undertaken for widening under phase-I of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission (JNNURM) scheme. The new crossings which will be covered under JNNURM, Phase II, are Vidhan Sabha crossing, Mothorowala crossing, Kishan Nagar crossing, Kamala Palace crossing, Race-Course crossing, Dilaram crossing, Araghar crossing, MKP crossing and Old Haridwar bypass.

It is also noteworthy that the 16 crossings which were taken up in the first phase, work had completed only on eight crossings while in rest of the crossings there was marked progress, except lansdowne, Kanak and Astely Hall crossings. Sources confirmed that the under construction crossings are stuck in legal wrangles thus caused delay in completing the project in the given time frame.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the widening of inter crossings would be started after receiving clearance from the departments. He claimed that the stern instructions would be given to the department officials to complete all pending works in the given time frame in order to avoid inconvenience to the commuters and residence.

After expressing his concern that plying of city buses and other heavy four vehicles during the peak hours adds to the traffic congestion across the state, he said that series of meeting would be held with heads of the different government departments and other nodal agencies for ensuring the completion of pending works in the given time frame.
