Plan to introduce SCADA to overcome power crisis

PNS

In order to overcome the problem of emergency cut and ensuring the disruption free electricity to the consumers, State power department is planning to introduce Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in the State.

Well established department officials told that the system would be proved extremely beneficial for finding fault on the line before removing the technical snags.

Well established sources revealed that the system would be proved extremely beneficial for finding the fault at the exact location instead of finding the fault in the entire affected areas under one or tow sub stations.

Under this system, power will not be cut in any area for the repair of faulty transmission lines or transformers, thus only handful colonies face the power cut due to the repairing works. Even though State power department claimed that the no area would be reel under the emergency cut but the reality is something very different

which has been claimed by the department.

All those residents who are living in the remote areas of the State are among the worst sufferers in terms of power outage due to faulty transmission or shortage of electricity in Uttarakhand.

Department officials told that the load of power where the fault occurs, be it in transmission lines or transformers, would automatically be connected to another feeder, the way it happens in case of domestic inverters.

And thus power supply would remain unobstructed. When the fault is repaired, transmission lines or transformers will automatically get connected to the original feeder. This technology will surely help in those areas where the population of the region that is fed by a single feeder suffers power cuts for any reason, would be prevented for ever.

Under the SCADA, remote monitoring units (RMUs) will be attached at every substation. When power signal snaps in a substation, RMU will segregate the faulty section and connect the rest of the power lines to other feeder.

It is also equally important to mention here is that several areas of the capital city have   been witnessing the power outage due to the ongoing maintenance works at different sub stations. One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the SCADA system would be proved extremely beneficial for ensuring the round the clock electricity supply to the consumers without forcing power outage in any other parts of the city.

After terming the tightening of loose connections is a regular feature in the department, he said that dense populated areas would be among the major beneficiaries, once the projects complete in

near future.
