The suggestion that the children of teachers should compulsory get enrolled in the Government schools is finding strong reactions from the teaching community of State. The teachers are of the opinion that the State Government should also include political leaders, Ministers and other Government officials in this endeavour.
The matter infuriated the teachers of the State when it was reported in section of media that the education department has asked all the District Education Officers (DEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to implement the suggestion. This suggestion was send by one Gauri Shankar a Haridwar resident to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his letter he had suggested that to improve the standard of teaching in the government schools the teachers should compulsorily enroll their wards in the government schools. This suggestion was send to the state government by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for necessary action. In an apparent attempt to soothe the frayed nerves of teachers Director secondary education RK Kunwar told The Pioneer that the suggestion was merely sent to the DEOs and BEOs and it does not mean that any such order is being given.
The teaching organizations are however upset over any such suggestion. The State president of Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) Karnel Singh said that the teachers would welcome this decision if the government imposes this compulsion on all senior government officials and politicians. Echoing his comment the district president of Dehradun unit of (RSS) Narendra Singh Bisht said that about two three decades earlier when the concept of private schools was not very common, the government schools catered all the sections of the society.
He said that if senior government officials like the District Magistrate sends his ward to the government school then only would he realize the lack of resources in that school. Shalini Ramola a teacher posted in Tehri Garhwal district was of the opinion that the suggestion if implemented would drastically improve the infrastructure and teaching standards of the government school. She however also added that it should be implemented on all government officials.
