The property tax of about 80 per cent buildings in Dehradun has been submitted by their owners in Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Besides, the MCD will improse a penalty on the building owners from April in case they fail to pay their property taxes by the end of this month.

Reportedly about 90,000 property owners have submitted the property tax in MCD so far. Last month, the percentage of property taxpayers was around 51.51 per cent but it took a huge leap this month.

According to the Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, the property tax of about 80 per cent buildings of the city have been collected by the corporation and so far about Rs 43 crore has been submitted to MCD.

Pandey also informed that penalty will be imposed on those building owners who will not pay their property taxes by March 31. He said, “The corporation will prepare the list of all the registered buildings that have pending property tax within the first week of April. Subsequently, the notice will be issued to these properties with the penalty of around 15 per cent.” The municipal corporation has its own criteria of imposing penalty on the building owners who fail to pay the property tax by the due date. The penalty of Rs 100, Rs 1000, and Rs 5000 will be imposed on the area of the property up to 50 square metre, 200 square metre, and 400 square metre respectively.  The penalty of Rs. 15000 will be imposed on the property of more than 400 square metre. However, if the submission of the property tax is late by 30 days,  five per cent of the penalty will be levied as the delay fee by the corporation.
