Above Poverty line (APl) card holders received 16 kg wheat and eight kg rice under public distribution system in the State this month.

During the past two months, card holders had received two kg rice and seven kg wheat per month under PDS in the State. This was disclosed by Uttaranchal Fair Price Dealers Association (UFPDA) President Jitendra Gupta on Wednesday. One of the PDS dealers said that this month, dealers received 16 kg wheat and eight kg rice per ration card holders under PDS as state government has launched Food Security Ordinance 2013 recently.

According to him, PDS dealers received cent per cent quota of food grains including rice and wheat as per cards allocated to them. Earlier, it used to happen that PDS dealers received around 50 to 60 per cent quota of allocated cards and they were directed by the district food and civil supply officers to distribute equally among cardholders.

In the last month, PDS dealers had received around one kg rice per card holder but they were told to distribute it in the ratio of two kg rice among beneficiaries. Gupta said that after the launch of Food Security Ordinance 2013 in the State, PDS leaders would be able to receive sufficient food grains to distribute it among cardholders.
